E-mail has its strengths and weaknesses, most of which have been hashed over many times in the literature, in magazines, and on the news. Despite the problems that we see with e-mail, it is a technology that is here to stay. Why? Because it is quick, cheap, easily shared with multiple people, and time- and space-independent. This makes it an ideal way for collaborators in different locations and on different schedules to share information without direct contact. E-mail is excellent for basic tasks, such as scheduling and for file transfer, ideation, and some limited discussion of issues.
It’s about networking and being nice to people and not burning any bridges. Your book is going to impress, but in the end it is people that are going to hire you.
