Hence, for CMC i, the probability that all routes need to be served on a particular ki Pik . Similarly, the probability that (ki − 1) routes day is given as qiki = k=1 ki to be used is given as qi(ki −1) = k =1 (1 − Pik ) k=k Pik , and so on. The expected number of vehicles is then found by enumerating all probabilities qik for 1, 2, . . e. ki N oV [VNDP] = kqik . (14) k=0 This calculation is based on the fact that whether a single branch or all the branches in a route requests a service, one vehicle is used.

The decision making process on the choice of the relay station relates to the density of offers passing via this location. This approach was validated by experiments based on real data of ridesharing in the French Lorraine region. The main advantages of this approach are increasing the opportunity of matching between riders and drivers and then a significant reduction of the total travel cost compared to the classical approach of round-trip ridesharing. As perspectives, several extensions can be considered.

Our numerical results show the effectiveness of our system, which improves participants’ cost-savings and matching rate compared to the classical round-trip ridesharing system. 1 Introduction The growth of the nation combined with the need to meet mobility, environmental, and energy objectives require other alternative transportation systems. In fact, public transportation systems are insufficient to address the needs of commuters in terms of flexibility and availability. One potential solution to meet these requirements without expanding service area or increasing service frequency of public transportation, is to use ridesharing services.
